Happy May Day

As a child I remember the excitement as I awoke on May Day (the first day of May). I carefully planned the night before what shoes I would be putting on that next morning, they had to be my fastest running shoes because my dad was super fast. When I awoke on May Day, I quickly laced up my running shoes and anxiously ate breakfast on the edge of my chair...waiting for the doorbell to ring. Somehow my dad always managed to sneak out of the house and surprise us when we least expected it. As soon as my brother and I heard that "ding-dong" we sprinted to the front door, pushing and shoving our way to be the first to see the glorious May Day baskets awaiting us on the front step. But first...we had to catch Dad...good thing for my fast shoes that morning...we would giggle, yell and always catch him half way around the house (I think most years he slowed down for us:)). We would wrap our arms around him and smother him with kisses before running back to our baskets to see what yummy snacks were in our baskets. We would repeat this with my Grandma and Grandpa Moody and I will forever remember them chasing us through their yard and catching us to smother us with kisses and hugs. This was a tradition I grew up with and one that I love that my girls have come to love.

Last night we prepared our May Day baskets for Uncle Chris, Grammy and Papa. Here are some pictures of the girls delivering their baskets, being chased and kissed. Kennedy would take off running, stop and run back toward the person chasing her...I think we will have to work on her for next year:) Watching how excited the girls were this morning brought tears to my eyes, it's the simple things so often that do these days. Watching my mom and dad chase my daughter's on May Day seems that things have come full circle and bring the memories of my May Days flooding back to me, and I am so happy to share this excitement with my girls. It may seem like such a silly thing, but sometimes those are the most cherished memories. Happy May Day!
